Generating income locally
Date: 2013-11-27
The best ideal any project can aim for is sustainability - so that the project can continue on its own into the future without relying on donors.
Positive Aid supports communities to help themselves. We know that it is always better to teach and empower people to pull themselves out of poverty instead of trying to do it for them. So instead of providing 100% of project funding and making the community dependent on us, we design ways for the people to sustain project activities themselves. A recent initiative to boost local income for the project in Kenya is the hire of chairs. Positive Aid provided funding for the initial purchase of chairs and they are already starting to bring in funding in the community. The result is a new service available locally, as well as increased self-reliance and project sustainability.
