Maternal and Child Health boost
Date: 2016-03-29
Positive Aid has supported further training of our community health workers to build their capacity in caring for women and children.
Our community health workers are the backbone to our project in Kenya. They are a group of amazing men and women living with HIV who have an outstanding commitment to uplifting others in their villages. They are trained in how to care for people with HIV/AIDS, and also pregnant women and babies.
Last month Positive Aid supported an extra training course on maternal and child health, to build upon their existing knowledge. Topics covered included family planning, exclusive breastfeeding, and prevention of HIV transmission to babies, among others. The training boosted their skill and confidence to look after women and babies in the field, and work together with hospitals by referring clients when necessary.
This part of the project has proven very successful, with local people happy to have access to competent and friendly community health workers available close by. Positive Aid also provided new kit bags for the health workers to use when volunteering their time in the field.
